This through-beam sensor triggers when the space between the emitter and receiver is blocked by an opaque object. It can also trigger on transparent objects like water droplets as long as the infrared beam is disrupted and the sensitivity is set high.

You can adjust the sensitivity by turning the screw on the top with a flathead screwdriver.
