Description:
This Sharp Infrared Ranger sensor has a very long range, it can measure distances between 1 meter and 5.5 meter.

This distance sensor bounces IR off objects to determine how far away they are. It returns an analog voltage that can be used to determine how close the nearest object is. Comes with 20 cm long 6-JST interface wire. These sensors are good for detection between 100cm-500cm (1-5 meters / 3-15 feet). The long range makes them a good alternative to sonar sensors.

Like the other Sharp distance sensors we sell, these sensors use a supply voltage of 5 V (between 4.5 and 5.5 V) and they give a responding output voltage between 3 V (100 cm) and 1.4 V (550 cm) depending on the distance measured.

These sensors tend to be a little noisy, we suggest soldering/connecting the included 220uF capacitor to the same place you connect the wires, to provide some filtering on the power supply. Connect the + pin of the capacitor to the Vcc wire connection, and the - pin of the capacitor to the GND wire connection. You can also use the 1101, Distance Sensor Adapter to get a good filtered output from this sensor. With the 1101 you can couple this sensor to Phidget Interface Kit's or to any micro controller with a 0-5V analogue port
